THE AGELESS MEDICAL FACIAL

procedure-medical-facials

For healthy, youthful looking skin it is extremely important to have a deep cleansing routine in the form of a medical facial. At Ageless Skin Med Spa, we recognize that each person’s skin is unique, so our experienced aestheticians (4 of them – that combine over 26 years of facial experience), thoroughly assess each client’s skin to design a customized medical facial to meet our client’s goals. Our medical facials are designed to refine, repair and rejuvenate the skin. Full extraction techniques are employed to alleviate clogged pores providing a very deep cleaning. In addition, LED light therapy, specifically REVITALIGHT®, that has been FDA cleared for the treatment of acne and wrinkles can be incorporated into our Medical Facials. REVITALIGHT® is a safe and effective use of advanced light technology designed to diminish the visible appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots by promoting “collagen firmness”.

In 2014 we have also introduced the most advanced aesthetic procedure to remove scars, diminish wrinkles and bring back the youth in your skin in a 30 minute procedure.  See more at SKIN MICROTHERAPY / MICROCHANNELING.

By incorporating prescription or medical grade products into our customized medical facials, and by recommending a detailed product regiment for home use, we are able provide our clients with a very “results oriented” skin care routine for younger looking and healthy feeling skin.

Ageless Skin offers a full range of medical facials, hydra dermabrasion, LED therapy, light-medium-deep chemical peels at the most competitive prices in South Florida. We have 4 medical aestheticians on-site so we can always handle walk-ins or same day scheduling. Call today to schedule a free consultation to discuss the type of treatment that would be most suitable for your skin.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A MEDICAL FACIAL?

It varies from person to person. Ideally, get a medical facial every four to six weeks because that’s how long it takes the skin to regenerate. Try to have a medical facial at least four times a year, as the season changes. You may need it more frequently if you are trying to clear up a case of acne, especially at the beginning. Otherwise, once a month is plenty.

In addition we recommend a medical facial prior to FRAXEL® to fully clean and prepare your pores for this anti-aging procedure.

MEDICAL FACIAL VS. SPA FACIAL

How do Jennifer Aniston, Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman keep their perfect complexions? Genetics are only part of the answer. But the real secret to consistently clear skin comes from the deep-down clean that only regular medical facials provide. It’s time to ditch the idea that facials are a relaxing pastime and although the “fluff and puff” facials may “feel good”, deep exfoliation and medical grade strength products are required for “ageless looking skin”.

A medical facial differs from your everyday salon facials in that we use high %, medical grade solutions with our facials that make them much more effective. Because we are a medical facility we are also able to do deep extractions if required by our full-time dermatology nurse practitioner.

MICRODERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion is the procedure in which the outermost surface of the skin is partially removed by light abrasion. The fresh skin just below the surface is then exposed, creating a glowing new complexion. Microdermabrasion is used to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. It is also used in the treatment of fine lines, acne, acne scars, enlarged pores, and to improve the texture of the skin.

THE DANGERS OF MICRODERMABRASION

Professional microdermabrasion
can bruise or discolor the skin if done incorrectly. The vacuum action tends to cause blemishes if the skin tension is let up or uneven. The lip area is particularly susceptible to bruising, and the eyelids should never be treated with microdermabrasion.

Treatment that is too deep or intense can cause permanent discoloration to the skin. For this reason and that hydra dermabrasion is much more effective for fine lines and wrinkles, we no longer offer microdermabrasion in our office.

HYDRA-DERMABRASION

Hydra-Dermabrasion removes dead skin cells and extracts impurities like microdermabrasion while also simultaneously bathing the new skin with cleansing, hydrating, and moisturizing serums. It is the only skin resurfacing procedure that provides both non-invasive exfoliation and simultaneous delivery of skin-specific topical solutions in to the skin.

Living in Florida, especially during the summer, can make our skin very dehydrated. When skin cells are not fully hydrated, they cannot function at their optimal level. If your skin is not properly hydrated, the free radical aging process is accelerated. Hydra-Dermabrasion adds moisture to the equation. Instead of blasting the skin with gritty crystals, the procedure blasts the skin with serums (such as botanicals, antioxidants, hyaluronic acids, glycolic acids, and salicylic acids) once the outer layer of your skin is compromised through an exfoliation and extraction process. Then through a hydration process, these compounds are infused deep into your skin thus increasing their effectiveness.

The Hydra-Dermabrasion procedure takes as little as 30 minutes and there is no discomfort during the process. The results are immediate. You achieve a “dewy” look and glow instantly that may last for five to seven days or even longer. A series of treatments is recommended for treating fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and oily or acne prone skin. This is considered a “lunch time” procedure as it is quick and you can return to your normal activated right after the treatment since there is no downtime.

This extremely innovative and effective procedure was featured in the recent “In Style” Magazine and has been featured on “The Doctors” show.

CHEMICAL PEELS

facial_mainAgeless Medical – South Florida’s Chemical Peel Experts

Facial wrinkles are the most common complaint our patients have.   Skin, like any material, is subject to wear and tear, photo degradation and absorption of chemical pollutants.  Fortunately, the skin can rebuild itself.  This is where chemical peels work their magic. Peels help the skin exfoliate and regenerate new skin cells. The new cells can replace aged, oxidized and hyper pigmented ones.

A chemical peel is a process in which a substance is applied to the surface of your skin to promote the removal of dead skin cells, stimulate new cells and encourage the regeneration of collagen.  We refer to this as “chemical” exfoliation.  The skin will begin to show its former luster which is lost with age, sun damage and environmental pollutants.

We feel the best cost to benefit ratio to renew and rejuvenate your skin is with a chemical peel.  Peels are classified in their ability to penetrate through tissue:

Light or superficial peels – only penetrate to the epidermis
Medium peels – these peels penetrate through the entire epidermis
Deep peels

vitalize-peel-fort-lauderdale Peeling techniques are not always the best treatment for all wrinkles.  An example would be nasalobial folds (wrinkles by your nose to chin) are best treated with dermal fillers.  Wrinkles caused by a contracting muscle between your eyes would be better treated with Botox or Dysport.  However, chemical peels in these areas would only compound the anti-wrinkle benefit of such procedures.

We feel Medium peels offer the best of both worlds.  These peels are well tolerated and offer great results.  Medium peels address fine lines, improve skin tone and texture, reduces acne scars, address concerns with pigmentation all while stimulating collagen production.

With a medium peel you should expect a social down time (peeling and some redness) of 3-10 days.  Minimal sun exposure for 3 weeks is recommended.  Our patients respond very well to this level of chemical peel treatment.

Types of chemical peels at Ageless Medical:

Lactic Acid Peel (Light Peel)

A Lactic acid peel is ideal for first time peelers and sensitive skin types. This AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) peel lightens and brightens while helping the skin retain moisture. This peel can be added to any facial treatment or our Hydrafacial procedure. Very little to no peeling is expected.

Glycolic Peel (Light Peel)

These peels are ideal for aging skin and those with hyper pigmentation.
AHA penetrates deeper than a lactic acid peel and is ideal for aging skin. This peel can be added to any facial treatment or our Hydrafacial procedure.   A series of 4-6 Glycolic treatments is recommended for best results.  Very little to no peeling should be expected.

Salicylic Peel (Light Peel)

Salicylic peels are Ideal for oily, thick, and acne-prone skin.
This peel breaks down oil and exfoliates inside and outside the follicle walls. A series of three treatments is recommended for best results and this salicylic peel can be added to any facial treatment or our Hydrafacial procedure.  Some mild flaking should be expected.

SkinMedica Vitalize Peel (Light to Medium Peel)

Vitalize_Peel_300dpiThe Vitalize peel is ideal for those with pigment abnormalities, acne and photo damage.  The Vitalize treatment is the next step above a Glycolic acid and a Salicylic acid peel and addresses various skin conditions, such as hyper pigmentation, breakouts and sun damage.

This peel renews oily and acneaic skin while reducing the look of discoloration but is still safe to use on most skin types.  A series of 3 Vitalize peels is recommended for best results. Mild to moderate shedding of the skin is expected with a social downtime of 3-5 days.

TCA Peel (Medium Peel)

The strongest peel we offer at Ageless Medical is the TCA peel (Trichloroacetic acid). A TCA peel is stronger than the Vitalize peel but still not considered a “deep” peel as it does not go down to the dermis.

The TCA peel is also proven to be one of the most effective peels for melasma, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and acne.  It tackles skin problems at the cellular level to erase fine lines and wrinkles, minimize enlarged pores, build collagen and elastin to tighten and re-texturize skin. There are varying percentages of the TCA’s acid that can be used.  Downtime is about 7-10 days after a TCA peel.

Conclusions

Chemical Peels are a versatile treatment and provide one of the best cost-to-benefit ratio of all cosmetic services.  You can reverse the signs of aging progressively without having to undergo an aggressive treatment.  In additional, chemical peels address a multitude of skin issues with minimal down time.

The Best Kept Secret for Youthful Looking Skin

by Erin Owoc, Dermatology Nurse Practitioner

medical-facialI have been often asked if I had just $100, what I would spend it on to make my skin look younger and to improve fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. Hands down it would be a light chemical peel. Not only is it an inexpensive way to make your skin look rejuvenated, it is also a quick procedure. Typically a chemical peel only takes 15 minutes, which is why they are sometimes called “lunch time peels” and are virtually pain free.

As we age, the accumulated effects of sun exposure, environmental pollutants, acne, and scarring can damage our skin and cause us to look older than we are. Chemical peels are topically applied acids that aid in the restoration and rejuvenation of the skin’s surface. Chemical peels stimulate the production of new cells which improve fine lines, tighten and tone the skin, help with acne scarring, and improve discoloration due to sun-damage, age spots and uneven pigmentation. The condition of the skin and healing times vary depending upon the strength of the peel performed.

Another fantastic application of a light chemical peel is using it to treat the skin on the neck, décolleté (chest), and hands. These areas of the body also show signs of aging and should not be forgotten in the pursuit of youthful looking skin.

Chemical peels vary according to their specific ingredients and strength. The actual depth of the peeling can also depend on other considerations such as how long the solutions remain on the skin and if they are lightly, heavily or vigorously applied. For light to medium uses, physicians use a solution known as AHA (alpha hydroxyl acid,) which include glycolic, lactic or fruit acid. AHA treatments may require a series of multiple applications with very minimal pain. Medium peels consist of TCA (trichloroacetic acid) and is stronger and peels the skin down to a greater depth.

Improvements from light AHA peels may be very subtle at first. You may detect a healthier glow to your skin. With continued treatments, you will notice a general improvement in the texture of your skin. The results of a medium TCA peel will be noticeably smoother and fresher-looking.
Chemical peels are a great way to have smoother, brighter-looking skin for holiday parties and family get-togethers. A consultation with your practitioner will determine the best type of chemical peel for you. I have personally witnessed hundreds of patients get incredible results, in a short amount of time, without breaking the bank with chemical peels.
