PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Injections and Microneedling at Ageless Medical

PRP-Platelet Rich Plasma Injections

Our faces are the first thing others see when they meet us.  Much of the aesthetic judgements that people make are based on their evaluation of a person’s face and our patients seek out our expertise in treating their skin and restoring it to its youthful appearance.  Our face is also the most exposed part of our skin to the elements and is the first to suffer damage.  The sun, air pollutants (such as smoking) all wreak havoc on unprotected skin and are the first to show the signs of “aging”.  Ageless Medical offers a simple, natural procedure to help correct these changes on your face.

Ageless Medical has qualified Medical Practitioners who can provide Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments in west Fort Lauderdale that are an excellent way to revitalize the youthful qualities of your face.

What is PRP?

Platelet Rich Plasma is blood plasma enriched with platelets.  PRP is created to be used both as an injectable to fill areas in the face that have sagged or wrinkled and topically to be infused in your skin via microneedling.  Although it may act as a dermal filler, PRP is not a filler and is not used as an alternative to dermal fillers.

How does PRP work?

During a simple procedure (like having bloodwork done), PRP is harvested from one’s own blood. The PRP that has been acquired from a concentrated source contains several various growth factors and cytokines which are elements that promote healing in soft tissues and bones.  When infused in your skin through microneedling or injection, PRP triggers the production of collagen and elastin in the affected areas in the skin. These growth factors are responsible for adding volume to the skin, resulting in a thicker dermis and improving the appearance of fine lines and facial creases over time.

What are the benefits of PRP?

Many patients in Fort Lauderdale consider PRP treatments to stimulate the production of collagen in order to keep the skin healthy and younger looking. PRP also helps in the repair of damaged tissues and triggers the production of new, healthier cells.  Overall, the PRP therapy promotes the growth of healthy blood cells and skin tissues, and stimulates the production of fibroblasts and keratinocytes.  Our patients are also pleased with the idea that the PRP treatment does not pose any risk for allergic reactions or intolerance.

What happens during a PRP procedure?

Once blood has been acquired from the patient by our Medical Practitioner, the specimen is then put into a centrifuge to separate its components. Once the blood has been activated to release the eight growth factors and proteins needed to make the treatment successful, it is injected (or infused via microneedling) into specific treatment areas.

How can PRP be used?

-As a topical infused during mirconeedling treatments
-As an injectable to boost healing and stimulate collagen production
-As a topical after Fractional Laser Resurfacing

What are the known effects of growth factors in the blood?

Every growth factor found in the harvested blood to be used in a PRP treatment has different benefits.  For instance, the Epidermal Growth Factor is responsible for regulating, proliferating, and differentiating cell growth during the skin tissues’ remodeling phase. The Transforming Growth Factor promotes the angiogenesis phase involving the production of new blood vessels. Meanwhile, the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor is important in both angiogenesis and vasculogenesis, as well as in the growth of blood vessels.

Other growth factors like keratinocytes, interleukins, macrophages, and fibroblasts stimulate wound healing of damaged tissues and the regeneration of new skin.

What are other treatments that can be done in conjunction with PRP?

Often to enhance the effects we will combine your PRP injection with PRP Skin Pen microneedling.  For example, we use both procedures together for the rejuvenation of the under eye areas.  The combined procedures deliver similar yet heightened benefits.  After a course of PRP injections with microneedling, the under eye areas become tighter, fuller and revitalized.

PRP is also very effective in recovery and rejuvenation of your skin when used as a topical treatment following our fractional laser resurfacing treatment.

For optimal results, we recommend at least 3 PRP treatment sessions, spaced apart by 6 to 8 weeks

What to Expect After a PRP and Microneedling Procedure

Most patients experience some mild swelling for a day and redness for 2 to 3 days after the procedure. The redness can usually be covered by make-up and most patients can return to work within 1 to 2 days after the procedure. Bruising can happen, especially if PRP injections are used during the procedure. Most of the time bruising is mild and can be covered up with make-up. Duration of bruising varies with the individual, but is rarely more than a week. Although patients may experience some mild discomfort during the procedure, there is no pain after a PRP treatment.
